Meet Karla Trotman of Belly Button Boutique.
We asked Karla some questions, and here is what she has to say!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I had a seriously uncomfortable and complicated pregnancy which led me to leverage my business logistics degree in order to source products to comfort and support my ailing body. Through this experience BellyButtonBoutique.com was born. I started the business while on maternity leave for baby #2. I now have two healthy little boys, a super supportive husband and a thriving business, which has grown through the power of social media. All of these things have afforded me the opportunity to be featured in magazines, blogs and on television. I left corporate America in order to focus on my business and my family’s 25 year old electronics contract manufacturing firm. I also consult other small businesses on successful implementation of social media into their marketing plan.
What is your blog about?
My business is about making pregnant ladies comfortable. My blog speaks to my own products maybe 5% of the time, the other 95% is about other products that I don’t even sell, my parenting stories and just anything that I want to talk about. That is the beauty of a business blog. Besides, how many ways can I sing the praises of postpartum cooling pads?
Is there a story behind your blog name?
My blog’s name is pretty much my view of pregnancy. While I wish that that period of my life was all rainbows and unicorns, I found it to be wildly uncomfortable and ignorant.
Who or what inspires you?
Several people inspire me:
My husband (yes, I’m a cheeseball) because he is so accomplished and doesn’t specifically work to win accolades. He does what he does because he is the old fashioned type of person that likes to do well at all tasks in which he is given.
My father because he was basically poor and created a wildly successful company on his own.
Michelle Obama’s arms – my mantra at the gym is “Michelle Obama arms, Michelle Obama arms.”
What is your favorite social network and why?
Facebook, because it is the center of the universe.
What is your biggest claim to fame?
Different people are impressed by different things, so I list my body of work here.
When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A Solid Gold dancer.
What subject would you like to blog about but won’t?
I would love to blog and post a picture of my 4 year old sitting on the toilet playing with his Nintendo DS, but my husband would kill me. I cherish moments like that.
What would be your dream brand to work with?
At first glance I thought it said “band” and it left me stumped. My dream brand…since I deal with pregnant mamas, I would love to work with Jessica Simpson. Basically because of her business savvy. I know that she is coming out with a maternity line and anything she blinks at turns into gold bouillon.
What is your favorite blog or blogger that is not your own, and why?
What is your favorite indulgence?
