We asked Lesa some questions, and here is what she has to say!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Lesa, and in between homeschooling and running a children’s boutique/party planning business, I write Bear Haven Mama’s Tales.
My husband Carl and I live in Schuylkill County with our two children, ages 6 and 9. My husband and I met while on exchange in Poland. He was from Pennsylvania, and I was from Ohio, and we just celebrated 10 years of marriage.
I was an English major. However, after an accident, I had to take time off from college. My husband and I were newlyweds, and I ended up getting pregnant. So for a while, I just concentrated on raising children. However, I felt the need to do something else as well. Eventually, I started my business when my daughter was almost one. It has been a challenge because I still deal with concentration problems as well as short-term memory issues. However, I have taught myself a whole new set of skills over the years and am still learning.
What is your blog about?
My blog’s tagline says it all,”Raising Kids, Planning Parties, and Everything in Between.” I write about party tips, children’s toys and gifts, my kids, problems we are having, being an oilfield wife, homeschooling, and running a business.
Is there a story behind your blog name?
I started blogging at first because of my business, but over the last few years, it has become so much more. I write about party planning and children’s gifts, since that is what I do. However, I also started adding things from my family’s life because it’s therapeutic, and I also hope maybe it will help someone else. We are an oilfield family, and sometimes I write about how I feel because I have found that there are others out there who are just like me, and we are all wondering how to get through it. I write about homeschool sometimes when I have a fun idea to share or just because I want to show that there are many misconceptions about homeschooling in general. My hope is that people read my blog and can relate.
Who or what inspires you?
My family inspires me. My daughter sees me as an entrepreneur, and she wants to be the same. So when I feel like giving up, I remember that I have to keep going because she is watching me.
What is your favorite social network and why?
Pinterest. I love pinning. I get so many great ideas, and it isn’t as much of a hassle as Facebook.
What is your biggest claim to fame?
I was the first student from my university to plan a multi-quarter cross cultural experience. I spent 6 months in Bosnia-Herzegovina learning about the culture, teaching English, and learning the language.
I also make a mean cabbage roll!
When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an astronaut. Then I wanted to be a teacher. Then I wanted to be a lawyer and Navy SEAL. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I started out as a Music major. Then I fell in love with English, even though it really is a funny language.
What subject would you like to blog about but won’t?
My relationship with my mom and stepdad. Some of my family read my blog.
What would be your dream brand to work with?
LaLaLoopsy. I have done LaLaLoopsy themed parties, and my daughter is obsessed with the dolls. I would also love Lego because my son and I have an intense Lego obsession.
What is your favorite blog or blogger that is not your own, and why?
What is your favorite indulgence?
Eastern European Fanta. I have actually ordered Polish Fanta online and have had some of my former exchange students bring me some. It tastes different than American Fanta, and I just like it better. I crave it!
