Evita Now Showing at The Academy of Music

The Broadway national touring production of Evita is now showing at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last! Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world—while her greed, outsized ambition, and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. Evita tells Eva’s passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater’s most beautiful songs, including ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,’ ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall,’ and ‘High Flying, Adored.’ Don’t miss the stunning new production of Evita, directed by Michael Grandage and choreographed by Rob Ashford, that Channel 4 New York calls “the hottest ticket in town!”

This show is not to be missed! The actors are superb and the musical score is sure to bring tears to your eyes. Seats are still available. Evita is in Philly through Sunday, June 22nd. Get your tickets: kimmelcenter.org.

We’re off to see…” the most magical adventure of them all. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic, totally reconceived for the stage by the award-winning creative team that recently delighted London and Toronto audiences with the revival of The Sound of Music. Developed from the ever popular MGM screenplay, this new production contains all the beloved songs from the Oscar®-winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Career Wardrobe’s A Perfect Fit: Empowering 18 Fashion Show & Fundraiser

Nearly a century after American woman won the right to vote at age 18, Career Wardrobe turns 18 and celebrates its role in helping to empower women in the Philadelphia area as they transition to work. Career Wardrobe’s annual premier fundraising event, A Perfect Fit: Empowering 18 Fashion Show & Fundraiser will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Crystal Tea Room, 100 E. Penn Square in Philadelphia.

Career Wardrobe’s premier fundraising event drew more than 300 supporters last year and raised nearly $100,000 to support the organization. The cornerstone of the event is a fashion show staring Philadelphia’s corporate and political leaders along with members of the news media who donate the suit they wear on the runway to help another woman transition to work.

KYW Newsradio Community Affairs Reporter Cherri Gregg will serve as the event hostess and Everett Gillison, Chief of Staff to Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will reprise his role as fashion show emcee.  Media personalities scheduled to appear on the runway include 6ABC’s Monica Malpass and Amy Buckman; NBC10’s Monique Braxton, Fox29’s Sue Serio and Karen Hepp; CBS3 and The CW Philly’s Erika Von Tiehl and Vittoria Woodill; Telemundo’s Iris Delgado and Violeta Yas; WMCN’s Dawn Stensland Mendte, BEN FM’s Marilyn Russell; and surburbabble.com blogger Hollee Becker.

Local corporate, nonprofit, and civic leaders scheduled to model include Lisa Haas, Esq., Member and Chief Marketing Officer at Cozen O’Connor; Amber Hikes, Director at Upward Bound; Sara Lomax-Reese, President of WURD Radio; Sharon Pinkenson, Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office; Michelle Shannon, Vice President, Marketing and Communications at Center City District; and Wendy Voet, Executive Director of Women’s Way.

The evening will also include a cocktail reception sponsored by Pravda and Barefoot Wines, a seated dessert, and a spectacular “It’s in the Bag” auction where travel, dining, and entertainment prizes are uniquely packaged in designer handbags.

This year’s event celebrates Career Wardrobe’s anniversary of empowering women for 18 years and officially entering adulthood and “voting age.” Since the days of the suffrage movement women have been using their vote and their voice to rise up as self-sufficient, empowered individuals. For almost two decades, Career Wardrobe has brought together women across the community to help empower each other through education, mentorship and even the clothes off their backs.

Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest independent community-based nonprofit organization that provides women in transition with free professional clothing to help them successfully find employment. Career Wardrobe’s mission is to empower women in transition by providing programs, which inspire the confidence necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and pursue a productive career. Since 1995, Career Wardrobe has empowered nearly 80,000 women.
